english version - Day 11. Ixlu

Hey guys,

Sorry but I had to devide day 11 to two different posts by languages. I was up late night to finish it but did not have time to write the english version. Now I'm sitting on the bus to Belize city, have some time to kill so I guess I can write it now.

The morning of Day 11 was luxurious if we think about our schedules from earlier days. We woke up 8 in the morning, there were no rush, a little snooze...hmmm it felt good. After late breakfast we decided to go to Ixlu. This is just 2 kms from El Remete, so we walked there. Yep, this 2 km route should have been the only trip today but at the end of the day we have managed 10km. How did it happen? Let's do the math!

The firs two was easy. Half on our in comfy speed. But the ruins....khm...there was only a stone and a little hill, it was not even digged and chickens were all around. Like a little farm. We were disappointed, but we recognised a sign that just 4 km away in the wood there's more. Oh yeah! 4 km is easy piece of cake for us. We started to walk into the wood. Just to be sure I switched my GPS on to track our move. After 2 km it started to be very suspicious that no one is around. Then we met some local man who carried something in a big sack with a big kind of a sword. Oh jeeez, what is going on? Not so much later we have discovered a big cornfield. Some local farmer worked here. It was good to know where comes from the basic ingradient of our tortilla but this is it? Where are the ruins?

We were so exhausted and it was like 35 degrees and we were lost in the middle of nowhere, looking for some ruins which are maybe not there...oh what a shame! We were so tired that started to fantasize what could happen? What if we discover a big secret drogfield hidden between the cornfields? It could happen, we are in Guatemala for God's sake. But what if we will be kidnapped by bushwhackers? Oh I have imagined that they make a video with us where we have to beg. Oh no, it is not that kind of outfit, I should wear for a kidnapping video :-) my hair is awful, I grew a little mustache to look more like the locals and it looks terrible on me. Ah no way! We have to avoid the kidnappers, and next time I should think twice what I wear if I go out for a walk to the jungle ... :-) When we have reached the 4 km distance according to my GPS, we've found nothing and there was nothing to search for either. Another disappointment. We turned around and went back home.

After that walk (2+4+4 km-we have found a shorter way home) we did not want nothing more then a cold shower and a huge lunch. Check, check! In the afternoon we did nothing just laying on the bed or read a book. We had to prepare to the next trip. We had a bus around 5:30am which takes us to Belize. Yeah, after 1 week we leave Guatemala because there are plenty thing to see in this continent.

Now I'm over the boarder of Belize, sitting in a bus to Belize city. We are planning our stay here. I hope I will able to report soon. Take care!
